If you follow practically any travel influencer on Instagram, you’ve likely seen them bikini-clad and waist-deep in a glistening infinity pool looking over a floating tray of colorful fruits, a basket of pastries, and, if they’re really going for it, a bottle of bubbly or a few mimosas. The picture screams luxury and, admittingly, can give anyone a slight tinge of vacation envy, which is probably why hotels everywhere from Bali to Da Nang have picked up on the idea. If you are willing to swap out a sumptuous breakfast buffet for a smaller spread with twice as much aesthetics, read on for a roundup of a few of our favorite floating breakfasts in the region.
Banyan Tree Samui, Thailand
With every villa at Banyan Tree Samui boasting a swish pool that practically seeps off your private deck and into the Gulf of Thailand, you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay in all day. Request a floating breakfast ensures you don’t have to. On offer are the usual breakfast suspects—pancakes, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, bacon, sausages, cheeses, and bread. Breakfast is included in the hotel’s daily rate, so you’ll only have to pay an extra US$15 for a delivery service fee. Just remember: the camera always eats first.
This jungle enclave is inherently peaceful, making a morning dip in your personal plunge pool that much more enticing. Add in a three-course breakfast spread to the mix and you’ll be going 100% vacay mode. On offer are Bali-appropriate smoothie bowls, breakfast classics, and dream-worthy concoctions like the Croque Croissant, which features smoked leg ham with truffle mustard, bechamel sauce, and Emmenthal cheese, or the Lemon Crepes, which are layered with a tangy lemon syrup and cinnamon sugar. A three-course floating breakfast starts at Rp1,000,000 per couple.
Meliá Ho Tram Beach Resort, Vietnam
If you can think of a better way to take in the morning sea breeze than from your beach-bordering pool villa with a croissant in one hand and a glass of bubbles in the other, we’re all ears. The spacious pools here leave plenty of room to float around while going in on avocado toast, an eggs benny, or a kaleidoscopic plate of tropical fruits. Floating breakfasts are offered to guests staying at the resort’s two-, three- and four-bedroom villas.
9 Hornbills, Thailand
Looking over the jetting karst peaks of Phang Nga Bay, the tented camps—each equipped with their own private pool— at this resort are pretty photogenic on their own. As the sun makes gains on a new day, glistening over the water in the distance, raise a glass (or mug) and root it on from your pool. Meanwhile, tuck into an altitudinous stack of waffles, freshly squeezed juices, Thai specialties and other serious breakfast options like eggs and bacon. Even better, the floating breakfast is included in your room rate. Just don’t forget to look up every once in awhile.
