5 Reasons We Love the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok

From admirable sustainability initiatives to pet-friendly policies, there are plenty of reasons to stay at this boutique in the Thai capital.

SITUATED IN THE HEART OF the Thai capital, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok has a whole lot going for it. Here are just a few of our favorite thoughtful touches.

1. Design is front and center here.

Each of the 362 guest rooms features traditional Thai artisanship and organic materials. Original artworks, such as the wall illustrations by Bangkok-born artist Phannapast are both eye-catching and imbue the hotel with a sense of place. Every piece of the hotel is a reflection of the long, proud aesthetic traditions of Bangkok.

2. Furry friends are welcome.

If the thought of leaving your precious pup in a kennel while you’re on vacation gives you separation anxiety, fear not. At Kimpton, animals are welcome regardless of their size, weight or breed. The best part? There’s no extra charge. Plus, the staff (and other guests!) will love pets just as much as you do.

3. This place is seriously green.

From using recycled cups and biodegradables at CRAFT to working with Wonderfruit, the ultra-eco-friendly music and culture festival, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok takes its commitment to sustainability seriously. The LEED Silver-certified hotel uses sustainable LED lighting, non toxic cleaning supplies, energy-efficient triple-glazed windows and much more to minimize its waste and carbon footprint.

4. This hotel thinks local.

From the minibar, which features dried Mahachanok mangoes and dried strawberries, and rum from Fullmoon Chalong Bay, an artisanal distillery in Phuket, there are all sorts of local touches here. Local coffee beans come from Kad Kokoa Thailand Single Origin, Voyage Pang On, and Pu Muen. Throughout the year, the hotel collaborates on local events, including local bridal houses for the Bridal Fashion Show, local instructors for National Muay Thai Day and a partnership with Kad Kokoa on World Chocolate Month.

5. Gender equality is a serious priority.

Pride is 365 at this Travel Proud Program’s Certified Hotel, which goes above and beyond to make sure that LGBTQ+ travelers feel welcomed. Kimpton is committed to diverse hiring practices and celebrates employees of all sexual orientations and gender identities. While the hotel honors the community all year long, Pride is an especially festive time here. Employees are encouraged to show their support with rainbow ribbon pins and the hotel celebrates with a special LGBTQI+ Film Festival.
