A NATURAL PARADISE comprising more than 17,000 islands, the Indonesian archipelago has it all. Diverse cultures, world-class food and exquisite stays make Indonesia one of the most intoxicating destinations on Earth. After two tough years, hotels and restaurants are reopening, and tourism is bouncing back, albeit in a more sustainable and considered way. A favorite in the region, and bucket-listed country for many of those beyond, Indonesia will steal your heart, and these winners of the first ever Asia’s Best Awards should inspire you to plan that dream trip. Best City Hotels in Indonesia

1. Four Seasons Jakarta

Not all city hotels are created equal, but this urban oasis in Jakarta’s Capital Place is beautiful from the inside out. Despite being located on one of the city’s arterial roads, the hotel embodies a sense of calm from the moment you step in. Designed by late Argentine-American architect Cesar Pelli, the suites shine with wall-to-wall windows and among the hotel’s standout features are a custom Lasvit chandelier, motif wallpaper, resort-style outdoor pool and a curated collection of local art and sculptures detailing the history of Indonesia.

The all-suite hotel’s good looks and great cuisine consistently rated highly among voters. “Iconic interior design, Instagrammable hotel, best food in town,” said one voter. And in the words of another: “The luxury service and interior are just amazing. The food and desserts are *chef’s kiss.* Nothing can beat Four Seasons Jakarta, in my opinion. Best hotel in Jakarta that I’ve ever visited!” Yet another voter praised the personalities found within the skyscraping hotel: “impeccable service from all employees.”

No doubt aware that its guests are dreamy for design, the hotel offers experiences that are unique to Indonesia, such as a private shopping excursion to meet with local furniture designers and source teak furnishings and Indonesian textiles.

Best Beach Resorts in Indonesia

1. The St. Regis Bali

With its pristine beachfront setting, award-winning restaurant and sprawling lagoon-style saltwater pool, this exotic escape in Bali is one of Nusa Dua’s finest. The resort has 124 rooms, suites and villas, with the crème de la crème being those with direct beach or lagoon access, where you can all but roll out of bed and into the water. Chic white sails drape from cabanas dotted throughout the luxurious pool area and nine hectares of lush gardens create a tropical cocoon that feels totally private.

St. Regis Butlers are at your whim 24 hours a day, and will even insist on unpacking and packing your suitcase, if that’s your thing. Little wonder then that this was also front of mind for voters. “Personalized world-class service,” as one person put it. As the home of one of Bali’s best fining-dining restaurants, Kayuputi, helmed by Indonesian chef Agung Gede, the hotel’s culinary prowess also gets a nod. Who doesn’t get excited by a luxe nine-course degustation spanning the ocean and paddock, including lobster dumpling in lobster bisque, swordfish belly and wagyu beef striploin? In the words of one voter: “Wonderful cuisine, magnificent lagoon pool and brilliant service.”

Best Upcountry Resorts in Indonesia

1. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

A riverside retreat set among Ubud’s stretching vines and jungle palms, this resort has one of the most impressive entrances in Bali. Walk across the suspension bridge floating above the treetops to the spaceship-sized lily pond beyond (before descending to the lobby and open-air dining room), and feel the weight start to lift off your shoulders. As one voter put it, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is “an architectural marvel with a stunning location.” Situated on the meandering Ayung River, this 60-suite and -villa resort makes the most of its natural splendors.

Sightings of whitewater rafters beyond the infinity pool are a regular occurrence (yes, you can even arrive to the hotel that way), and mornings are filled with the sounds of birds chirping and the breeze rustling trees. Nature’s vivid green presence might be on show here, but wellbeing rules the roost. From chakra-healing journeys in tranquil treatment rooms to the bamboo yoga shala overlooking piercing rice paddies, the hotel’s wellness offerings aren’t just good, they’re life-altering. But just don’t take it from us; one voter said they were most impressed with the hotel’s “mind-blowing architecture, incredible wellness program and experts on-site.”
