Introducing Centara Reserve, Thailand’s Newest Luxury Hotel Brand

For us at Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia, one of the most thrilling things in the world is a new hotel brand.

Mar 8, 2022

CENTARA RESERVE is making its grand debut in Koh Samui, on a lush spot of Chaweng Beach. It’s the first luxury resort from Centara Hotels and Resorts, and as soon as you pull up, you’ll know you’ve entered a whole new world. A sprawling beach house estate with the space, abundance of offerings and overwhelmingly can-do attitude to ensure every guest gets exactly what they want out of their vacation.

What’s the most important thing you need to know about Centara Reserve? They’ve thought of everything with their four Reserve Pillars—Reserve Time, Reserve Space, Reserve Culture, and Reserve Touch—which include everything from a daily surprise service, a complimentary session with the resort’s resident photographer, and much more.

On the fashion front, the resort has commissioned customized slippers that you can take home. Tell them your children are coming and they’ll swap out mom and dad’s 400-thread count linens, robes and slippers for kid-approved colors and sizes. All rooms come with sleep therapy clocks programmed with nature sounds; your kids, though, get magical projections of their choosing on the ceilings.

The vibe of every area across Centara Reserve is subtly guided by a music curation based on individual elements, from the time of day to the texture of the furniture to the type of food being served.

There are homemade protein bars in the gym, which is outfitted with the latest and greatest equipment. Not only is the Reserve Spa Cenvaree 100-percent organic with most ingredients cut fresh from their garden, but many treatments are integrated with food and beverage for a fully holistic wellness experience.

We could go on, but let’s just say this: the level of attention to detail that we found at Centara Reserve can be summed up in one incredibly unusual anecdote: the pastry chefs hand-make croissants, of course. But they also hand-make teeny mini-croissants that are so tiny they need tweezers to roll them. And then they bake them to serve to guests… as breakfast cereal! Where’s the “mind-blown” emoji when you need it?

While we’re on the subject of breakfast, you can partake of it any place in the hotel at no charge. And, extra importantly, any time — which makes sense in a place where you can check-in whenever you want. No need to worry about coordinating your arrival flight with strict standard hours.

We do, however, suggest you rest up in advance of brunch at Salt Society, the beachfront, seafood-focused venue sure to be the most rollicking hotspot on the island each weekend.

Come evenings, the hottest tickets are Sa-Nga, which dishes up inventive Thai bites in Spanish tapas style, and Act 5 a carnivore’s haven where not one single dish arrives on the table fully prepared. Rather, sit back and watch — or, rather, cue up your camera for IG stories — as the chefs and waitstaff – which they call hosts here — finish the culinary story before your eyes.

And how’s this for giving the people what they want? They’re so dedicated to local flavors that at The Gin Run — which offers a fab view over the whole gorgeous property — they infuse 35 different gin varieties in-house. Have a hankering for wasabi or how about Chiang Mai strawberries? The answer is yes.

The pool bar host is all suited up, so no matter where you want to place your order they’ll wade in and deliver. But if you like to mix it up in private, all the rooms, suites and villas include a custom-built cocktail station stocked daily at no charge with carafes of whiskey, gin and vodka, and recipes if you want to get creative.

While mom and dad are learning new skills, let us gush about the children’s zone. It’s a tech-free space with all-wooden toys, where children do pottery, make kites, learn about oceanography… essentially a Montessori educational exploration — with a water playground!

Now that we think about, this is a great way of thinking about the revolutionary new brand that is Centara Reserve overall. A haven of comfort, joy and exploration, of subtle but distinct luxury, where your wellbeing is top-of-mind and your personality is the most important factor.

Here on the seven-kilometer stretch of perfect sands that is Chaweng Beach, Samui’s most famous, beloved and convenient, we think we’ve found our new favorite resort to splash around and to splash out! Meet you in the pool. (Any of the many pools.)
