ONCE UPON A TIME, you might have gotten an eye roll from your boss for asking for time off work to clear your mind, harness your chi, or practice some yoga. But in today’s culture, mental and spiritual health have evolved to become widely accepted topics even around the workplace, thanks to initiatives like Global Wellness Day that work to destigmatize these important subjects. This year, on the 10th annual Global Wellness Day on June 12th, a number of hotels around the region are launching a series of activities—virtual and on-site—in an effort to further increase awareness around health and wellbeing. Read on and discover ways in which you can participate.
Chiva-Som and Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som
Looking to feel more in tune with your mind and body? Thailand’s iconic wellbeing retreat Chiva-Som and its soon-to-launch Zulal Wellness Resort in Qatar are hosting a complimentary series of educational virtual activities to help you better connect with yourself. The one-day affair will center around ‘Protecting Mental Wellness’ with a total of 12 interactive classes on a variety of topics to appeal to all needs. Examples: like ‘Yoga for Weight Loss,’ ‘What is Stress and How to Deal with It’ and ‘DIY Kombucha Tea and Twisted Strawberry Mojito Kombucha.’ Participants can join via this Zoom link for free. The June 12 online extravaganza celebrates the beginning of Chiva-Som’s and its sister property’s relationship. Since its establishment 25 years ago, Chiva-Som has grown to become an internationally recognized name in transformative wellness, attracting high-end clientele to the sleepy Thai beachtown Hua Hin for weeks-long, life-changing retreats. Now, the hotel group will soon be able to call the Middle East their home too: Zulal is slated to become Qatar’s largest wellness destination and the Middle East’s first wellbeing resort boasting a private coastal address. Set to open in late 2021, Zulal will distinguish itself from the original resort with services and treatments based upon Islamic wellness principles and indigenous ingredients.

Twenty-four hours, 24 classes from 24 experts based at 24 Mandarin Oriental properties around the world. International travel makes it difficult to be at a Mandarin Oriental hotel right now, which is why the hotel group has chosen to take Global Wellness Day online with their ‘24 Hours of Wellness’ campaign that will have you learning and interacting with the best of the best. Start with morning meditation in Tokyo before taking a virtual cooking class led by London’s leading nutritionist. In the afternoon, stretch it out with mat pilates in Abu Dhabi followed by a yoga class in Bangkok and postural therapy in Boston. All experiences will be hosted live on each Mandarin Oriental property’s Instagram accounts. To see the full details and schedule, visit mandarinoriental.com/luxury-spas/global-wellness-day-calendar.
