WITH ITS SANDY SHORES and waving palm trees, the pearl island Phu Quoc has always been an enticing place to visit. While for years, Vietnam’s largest island appeal lay in its untrammeled beauty, in beaches with no signs of civilization beyond a few thatched-roof bungalows in sight. These days, the island is just as naturally striking, but the accommodations have gone decidedly more upscale. Earlier this year, Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc opened its doors and set a new standard of laid-back luxe hospitality.
Situated on a 2.5-kilometer stretch of sand cradling the bay strait from Ong Lang to Cua Can, the resort has room for tiny travelers to play. With its palm-dotted coastline, golden shores and stunning turquoise waters, Ong Lang Beach is often nicknamed “Sleeping Beauty.” There’s plenty of family-friendly fun within the resort as well. The Little Birds Club provides all sorts of crafts, games and activities to make sure younger guests have a fabulous time. It’s the perfect place for a family vacation towards the end of the year, when the weather on Phu Quoc is spectacular.
There’s also plenty for parents to enjoy at this elegant resort, which picked up three nominations, one being “The Luxury Family Beach Resort”, in the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2020. From snapping photos at the jaw-dropping infinity pool overlooking the sea, sipping cocktails to chilled-out beats at Aura Beach Club, and pampering yourself with a sunset foot massage, this paradisiacal setting invites guests to truly unwind and relax. Although this may have been a tumultuous year for travel, visitors to Vietnam can take comfort in the fact that, thanks to its swift and effective efforts to combat COVID-19, the Southeast Asian nation offers a high degree of safety and security. Out of an abundance of caution, the resort has implemented top-flight hygiene and cleanliness procedures in order to make sure guests can enjoy their care-free holiday in comfort.
