IT TAKES SOMETHING special to make Bangkok buzz, and The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is doing just that with their newly opened Asia flagship between the upmarket Sathorn and flashy Silom neighborhoods. Ideally situated to explore the old town, excellent dining, unforgettable nightlife, and all the pleasures the Chao Phraya riverside offers, there could hardly be a better location in the city.

With the same irreverent spirit and unconventional approach as the brand’s other buzzy city hotels, the vibe of The Standard’s latest opening is one of excitement. Located in the iconic Mahanakhon building, the 155-room hotel is set to be a modern classic and a stop on any hip traveler’s itinerary.

With eight room categories ranging from a 40 sqm Standard King to the cheekily named, sprawling 144 sqm Bigger Penthouse, the hotel also holds a picturesque terrace pool, 24-hour fitness center, an array of meeting rooms, and of course, a selection of cutting-edge food, drink and nightlife options.

The Parlor

The Parlor is the hotel’s hub for socializing, cocktails, work, lounging, live music, lectures, and more. Tease is an eclectic and unexpected tea room perfect for sipping, nibbling, and contemplating. The Standard Grill provides American steakhouse classics with regional flavors and perfect martinis.

The award-winning Mott 32 pays homage to the Chinatown neighborhood in New York City. Its Chinese cuisine takes inspiration from Cantonese cuisine with influences from Beijing and Szechuan. Their signature dim sum, applewood roasted Peking duck, and barbecue honey glazed Iberico pork are a welcome addition to Bangkok’s dining scene.

Of course, no Bangkok high-end hotel experience is complete without sky-high dining experiences, and The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon provides two remarkable options.

Ojo is a Mexican-inspired restaurant masterminded by one of the finest chefs in Mexico, the award-winning Francisco Paco Ruano. The menu features creative twists on authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails and features playful, retro Mexican decor. After the sun sets, guests can dance through the night while pausing to sip signature drinks and take in the panoramic views from the 76th floor.

Sky Beach is Bangkok’s highest alfresco rooftop bar, letting guests get sky-high for drinks, snacks, and delightful sunset views.

Design Notes

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon was conceptualized as an uber-social downtown hub by Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon alongside The Standard’s award-winning in-house design team.

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon: Lobby

They took inspiration from the synergy between the city’s melting pot of cultures and free-form artistic exploration. As a result, the social spaces are refreshingly intertwined with local and international cultural cues, like Marco Brambilla’s lobby video installation, “Heaven’s Gate.” The looping video pays homage to Hollywood dreams and excesses. It marks the first installment in the hotel brand’s “Box” series that will showcase an ever-changing roster of art installations.

Other public spaces in The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon introduce guests to the vibrant, local creative scene through fine art, including pieces by Marc Quinn and Joan Miro alongside local artists.
