IF YOU WANT TO WORK ON your golf swing but you prefer cushy sofas in temperature-controlled rooms to standing outside under Thailand’s tropical sun, we’ve got a proposition for you. Actually, even if you don’t know the difference between a birdie and bogey, the Topgolf Bangkok is likely to woo you. This multi-space, multi-platform, hi-tech, something-for-everyone entertainment complex offers tasty, top-quality food and drink delivered to your own hitting bay, and private balconies that can be booked by a group like a karaoke room, but instead of belting out power ballads, you whack hi-tech golf balls into coolly lit targets on the outdoor green.
You can bring your own clubs, use the equipment provided or upgrade to a selection of top-of-the-line brands. Microchips in the golf balls allow you to track your shots on one of the 300 HDTV screens with pinpoint accuracy so you can see how you measure up against the competition.

But you don’t even have to pick up a club to have a good time at Topgolf. First there’s the food. The menu hits the right notes of fun and flavor-packed, with shareable items like nachos and soft tacos. The seriously spicy mama instant noodle salad that comes in a faux cup noodle container is quintessential comfort food from the streets of Thailand.
Thirsty? Check out the sports bars with a two-story-high monitor, the plush wine and whiskey bar or the panoramic rooftop bar and its tailor-made cocktail list. Or order from a range of craft beers like the local fave Muay Thai.

You don’t need to be a PGA pro to try out your swing. There is a challenging, fun and photogenic 18-hole miniature golf course to putt around. Back in the hitting bays, those trackable golf balls allow you to swing into digital interfaces like virtual golf courses or familiar games like Angry Birds, a decidedly different take on scoring eagles and birdies. Instructors from the Topgolf Golf Academy are on hand to coach beginners and advanced players alike.
The 7,000-square-meter facility built on a 47,000-square-meter plot of land counts 102 private bays, four of which are double-sized VIP suites. The teeline cooling system keeps play comfortable all year round. Being located just 20 minutes from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport makes it a natural destination for visitors. Kids have their own dedicated playgrounds, making for a family-friendly outing. Expect Topgolf to be a hit with the office crowd, too, whether for team-building, meetings or letting off steam after work.

Andrew Nathan, managing director of Topgolf Southeast Asia, expects that the unique brand of fun will attract half a million people to the Bangkok megaplex in the first year. “People want to get together as a group,” he says, adding that “Topgolf is fun for all people and all occasions.”
Topgolf already has locations in the U.S., the U.K., Dubai, Mexico, Australia and Germany, but the one in Bangkok will be the very first in Southeast Asia (there is a pared-down in-city outlet in Shanghai). If all goes according to plan, it won’t be the last. Golfers in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, as well as additional sites in Thailand, can look forward to swinging times in the future.

Topgolf Megacity will open in Bangkok in the third quarter of 2022. Bays can be booked by the hour, with rates varying depending on the time and day.
